Great work. Jack London saw this coming in his 1908 novel The Iron Heel in which a corpo-fascist oligarchy has become everlastingly empowered. Of course he had no idea how bad it could get. The hydra of the trillion -dollar corporations controls all the channels of creation and distribution, doesn't scruple to surveil and coerce, and follows the simple credo of cancer capitalism wherein the only thing that matters is shareholder profits. AI will only make this worse. It's hard to find even a ray of hope, since it's a fallacy to use the past successes of populist uprising as an indicator of future outcomes. We're in new territory, and there are more humans alive than ever before. What effect that will have remains to be seen

Well the good news is AI used for military purposes will eventually turn on us, and lock us in cages, to be enjoyed by other AI creatures. And guess what - Jeff Bezos and Tim Apple will not have special cages - they will be stuck in with the rest of us.

This is a killer article. As a member of Iatse Local 600 (Cinematographer's Guild) - I find this analysis perfect. We really are just all mice. Also my union voted to not strike last year for all the reasons that is happening now - the long freeze of work by the big amazon, apple, and netflix. And how can we win - their stock prices are all up around 40 percent in the past six months. They aren't feeling any bleeding.

Thank you for writing this. We do forget that all our actions are connected, no matter how disparate they seem.

I could not support Amazon workers more strongly but as a retired writer, WGA can go fuck itself. Where were your members when Deep State was rewriting all the scripts to glorify war? How many WGA writers wore Blue and Yellow flags because you were told to or because for some irrational reason you just simply liked Nazis?

Huge respect to SAG for pulling your overfed testicles out of the fire. Just out of curiosity, what does this contract do for new writers? Is it still legal for moviemakers to scream obscenities at worker bees at every step of the process?

Hollywood is a corrupt shit show and writers enabled that garbage at every step of the way. Acknowledge as much and you'll see your supporters increased by tenfold but until then you're just a bunch of rich fucks who are only now getting the kind of screwing other American workers have been experiencing. Enjoy. You could have been real unionists and enjoyed the fruits of solidarity. SAG is teaching you something very important. Pay attention!

If only there was some large entity in the press with, say, an office in the capital so they are close enough to the NLRB to easily cover that agency's work, so that everyone could get regular updates about this vital national issue...

The image of large groups of mice working together to chew down large trees sent me browsing nature sites.

I think the beetle would be more accurate. They hollow out giant redwoods.

Something seems wrong about casting workers as insects, (locust swarms?), but maybe that's what we are most like.

I'm 100% in agreement with your point though.

We need to rip off our employees and eat all our competitors so we can make all the money. Oh wait, we still need somebody out there that can afford to buy our stuff. Ouroboros.

Hamilton,

I suggest talking to Glenn Greenwald about the consequences of accepting Omidyar money.
