There’s no single English word, Ged, that equals venceremos. It incorporates the “we” as unobtrusively as it is collectively inspirational. We, who prefer ironies over opulence. When Pete Seeger sang- in the big muddy, the big fool says to push on; Now I hear, when in the big muddy, all one can do is keep going.
Beautifully put - yes. That is exactly why I keep choosing that phrasing. (Also, Chuck Schumer chanting "We will win" certainly didn't do the translated version any favors either)
Thank you for this Hamilton. I had read reports about the mayor's speech but next to nothing about this chorus of citizens - you know, the usual "after a few warm-up speakers..." What 'the little people' said IS the real story. We need more of this - and more who will listen and act on what they hear.
A great moment for reminding us that there is such a thing as love and that it can make the world a better place if those who fear it can be unmasked as the pathetic miserable fools they are.
A thread in this silver lining, is our new understanding of who we and they are. The poet Yeats predicted that the worst of us would be filled with passionate intensity. Have we been afraid? Certainly too quiet.
Really important reflection for organizing and motivation. The fear-based stuff workers for some of the more obvious struggles, but in sectors like mine (architecture) people respond strongly to organizing for something, not necessarily against it.
excellent - after the kangaroo court Haymarket trial in Chicago, as Albert Parsons' shouted before his hanging on Nov 11, 1887, at the Cook County Jail --"Let the Voice of the people be heard."
You nailed it. Especially now we need to distill this moment into its basic irreducible components. What is it REALLY and TRULY all about. So easy to get mired so deep in the details that you forget where you are.
This is so beautiful that it brought a little tear to my eyes. Thank you for this comrade. Venceremos.

Have you ever read something and thought “Holy shit, I wish I could write like that!”?

The wish to do so is half the journey, and I wish you well and encourage you.
you and me BOTH...
Inspiring piece. Thank you!

Yes..love is the path to clarity
Not only Einstein believed that truth has the beauty of simplicity about it. No one ever got there by complicated sophistry.
