A short discussion of why most political media coverage is bad.
I was mid-way through this piece when I let out a heavy sigh of frustration, as I realized how fundamentally correct you are. The horse race is useless, endless, and so tedious. Thanks for bringing me down? I kid! Thanks for another great read.
Great piece Hamilton - but it took you a rather long time to get to the actual root of the problem: capitalism. LOL
"Every time you see an interview or a news story in which the main point is how some policy proposal or crisis or tangible action will affect the standing of the politicians themselves—in the polls, in the party, in the reality show of the campaign—you are witnessing a failure of journalism."
- My favorite part of the piece; great work as usual, Hamilton.
Great piece, as always, HamNo, but your headline and sub-head are so good that you could have just switched the two and saved a bunch of work. :-)
Also this: "They would displease public figures who grant them access that they depend on," is not discussed enough and is a big part of the rub.
"What I am going to discuss here is what is inexactly called “the mainstream media,” which could more accurately be called “That portion of the media that thinks of itself as the mainstream media— that believes that it occupies the center and can be used as a marker by which all other media outlets are measured.”
PERFECT 'definition' of the MSM...
absolutely nailed it...I've been trying to figure out a metric to determine what that line is...THIS is it...
"That portion of the media that thinks of itself as the mainstream media"
Yes. Just yes.
Good morning to you too!
