Being born and bred in Florida didn't exactly prepare you for activism in the frozen North, did it? Can't say I envy you! Motivated by you, I will donate to the folks in Minnesota. BTW I thank you so much for helping the lady in the wheelchair—unbelievable!

J.D. Vance:

"But they’re here not even to enforce immigration laws, but to protect the people from the rioters.”

Um.. ICE has no function whatsoever for 'crowd control'. None. Zero. They have no training for it and no business even being near a crowd tomorrow. If they are, it is 100% provocation.

[By the way, your -15 degree projection is optimistic. It is expected to be breezy here, too, and the wind chill will be in the -30 range. STAY WARM].

Hi Hamilton, I just read your heartwarming and heart wrenching story to my 87-year-old mother. We are rooting for you and all the badass protesters!!! You were super sweet to help that woman. We live in a screwed up country for sure. We’ll donate to the rapid response fund. I hope the general strike is a huge success! Peace and gratitude, me and my Mom

Thanks for being there Hamilton. Even without the violence and repression voluntarily immersing oneself in that cold deserves respect. Maybe it makes sense: ICE belongs in the ice box. We look forward to your reports. Here is to the success of the general strike!

Hamilton, thank you for your reporting. I have donated, per your suggestion. And, by the way, I finished reading your book, The Hammer: Power, Inequality and the Struggle for the Soul of Labor. i loved it.

I am a retired ESOL teacher. I reached out to my local UNITE HERE union to help union members with their citizenship tests. I am not a union member, but a proud member of the working class.

Layers, dude! See below.

I am in a hotel on the border of Indiana and Ohio on the way back to RI. Driving was perhaps not the best idea, but I just jumped in the car.

The cold in MN was like a clinging liquid. I had three layers of socks (two wool), two layers of long johns (one tight fitting, one loose) and then pants, and t shirt, long johns, two wool sweaters, vest, and the all important windbreaker. Hat, scarf, gloves, of course.

That worked in -25 windchill. Still, the feet were the first to go, but otherwise I was toasty for a couple of hours.

Good on you for going!
